Frequently Asked Questions

What resolution should I choose for finger, hand or body protection?

Match the resolution to the smallest body part that can reach the hazard: 10 mm for finger protection, 20 mm for palm protection, and 30/40 mm for hand-arm or body presence. The DCE offers 10/20/30/40 mm, so a single series covers presses, injection-molding machines and perimeter guarding without changing supplier.

Is the DCE a Type 4 safety light curtain and what about PL e?

The DCE is designed to the IEC 61496-1/-2 Type 4 architecture with dual-channel outputs and self-checking. The Performance Level (up to PL e under ISO 13849-1) is achieved by the complete safety function — the curtain plus a certified safety relay or safety PLC with EDM feedback, validated by the integrator.

Can the DCE replace an Omron, SICK or Keyence safety light curtain?

In most cases yes. The DCE matches common resolutions (10/20/30/40 mm), 0.3–3 m or 0.3–6 m range, and dual NPN/PNP outputs, so it drops into the same safety loop. Confirm the mounting length and resolution against the unit being replaced; see our Keyence/SICK alternatives buyer's guide linked below.

How is the DCE wired with its 7-wire connection?

The DCE uses a 7-wire connection bringing out power, the dual NPN/PNP safety outputs (NO/NC selectable) and sync. Feed the two outputs into a dual-channel safety relay or safety PLC input, and route the feedback loop through forcibly-guided contacts so a welded contact is caught on restart. See our OSSD NPN/PNP wiring with EDM guide.

How do I calculate the minimum safety distance for the DCE?

Use ISO 13855: S = K × T + C, where K = 2000 mm/s (hand-speed constant), T is the machine stop time plus the curtain response (≤15 ms), and C is the intrusion factor derived from the resolution. Our ISO 13855 safety distance calculator works it out from your resolution and stop time.

What ingress protection and ambient-light immunity does the DCE have?

The DCE is rated IP65 (dust-tight and water-jet resistant) with ambient-light immunity ≥10,000 Lux and typical response ≤15 ms. The aluminum-alloy and reinforced-ABS body stays stable against flicker and welding light, making it suitable for stamping, hydraulic press and general automation environments.
