Frequently Asked Questions

What is the measuring range and accuracy of the DDA-Y / DDB-Y laser distance sensor?

The series covers 0.2 m up to 100 m depending on the model (Y10 / Y20 / Y30 / Y50 / Y100), with an accuracy of ±(2 mm + 0.01% of distance) and 1 mm resolution. The 660 nm visible red laser makes alignment easy, so it suits level, positioning and thickness measurement across short and long industrial spans.

What is the difference between the DDA-Y and DDB-Y models?

Both share the same ranging engine, IP67 housing and RS485/RS232 interface. The DDA-Y provides dual NPN/PNP switch outputs only, while the DDB-Y adds a configurable analog output (0–5 V, 0–10 V or 4–20 mA) for continuous level or position feedback into a PLC or controller. Choose DDB-Y when you need an analog signal.

Does the sensor support Modbus RTU and how do I wire RS485 or RS232?

Yes. The interface is hardware-selectable between RS485 and RS232 and speaks Modbus RTU, so it drops into existing PLC, HMI and SCADA networks. Wiring uses an M12 8-pin connector carrying DC 15–30 V power, communication lines, two switch outputs and (on DDB-Y) the analog signal. RS485 is preferred for long multi-drop runs.

Is the DDA-Y / DDB-Y laser sensor safe and rated for harsh environments?

The laser is IEC 60825 Class II at ≤1 mW, which is eye-safe under normal use without protective eyewear. The die-cast zinc alloy body carries an IP67 ingress rating for dust and washdown, and it operates from –10 °C to +50 °C, making it suitable for dusty, damp or vibrating factory environments.

Can this laser distance sensor replace an imported brand for industrial level or position measurement?

In most cases yes. With a 0.2–100 m range, ±(2 mm + 0.01%) accuracy, RS485/RS232 Modbus RTU, dual switch and analog outputs and an IP67 M12 connection, the DDA-Y / DDB-Y matches the form and signal interface of common imported laser ranging sensors. Match the range model, output type and connector to the unit being replaced.
